Monster Hunter Wilds Playtime Unveiled
At last, Monster Hunter Wilds arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This ambitious sequel from Capcom follows the massive success of Monster Hunter World and its Iceborne expansion. But how lengthy is the adventure? We've gathered playtimes from IGN's team - detailing their main story completion, prioritized activities, and post-game investments.
Tom Marks - Executive Reviews Editor, Games
I completed Monster Hunter Wilds' campaign in just under 15 hours - reaching the actual conclusion unlike Rise's premature credits. However, this only marks Low Rank's end, with High Rank offering substantial additional content.
I spent another 15 hours completing nearly all post-campaign quests and reaching the true endgame. This included battling every available monster, unlocking all launch systems, and accessing the Artian weapon customization. Thanks to Wilds' refined progression, I achieved my ideal gear setup in just 5 additional hours, though other weapon types remain to master.
Casey DeFreitas - Deputy Editor, Guides
I completed Wilds' final High Rank story mission at 40 hours total - 22 hours after the initial credits. During Low Rank, I skipped extensive crafting, focusing purely on progression. In High Rank, I branched out - hunting optional monsters and teaming up online.
My rushed approach meant minimal gear upgrades - only farming an Ajarakan for one weapon improvement. Given more time, I'd likely reach 60 hours before credits by optimizing builds. Post-game, I still have endemic life to collect, six hunting missions, Talisman upgrades to farm, and Event Quests launching soon.
Simon Cardy - Senior Editorial Producer
As a series newcomer, I completed the main story in just under 16 hours - surprising for a series where I'd previously sunk 25 hours into World without finishing. The streamlined mechanics made combat more accessible, though I still faced challenges against apex predators.
The consistent story-to-hunt pacing feels different from traditional Monster Hunter - blending Capcom's signature gameplay with Western cinematic influences. While enjoyable, longtime fans might miss deeper mechanics that now primarily appear post-game.
Jada Griffin - Community Lead
My 20-hour journey to credits included substantial side content and exploration. I hunted endemic life, optimized campsites, and customized menus alongside main quests. High Rank took 15 additional hours to fully complete.
With 70 total hours logged, I've enjoyed post-game monster crown hunting, decoration farming, and casual hunts with friends. The current roster provides plenty of fun, though I'm excited for future title updates.
Ronny Barrier - Producer, Guides
I reached first credits in 20 hours, mainlining the story while experimenting with weapons (especially the standout Switch Axe) and crafting stylish armor. At 65 hours played, I consider the story more of an extended tutorial leading to the real experience: hunting new monsters and crafting gear.
