Gears of War: Reloaded Launches Simultaneously on PS5 and Xbox
The much-anticipated release date for Gears of War: Reloaded has been officially announced, and fans are thrilled to learn that it will launch simultaneously on PS5 and Xbox. Dive in to discover more about this exciting multiplatform release and the enhancements that await players.
Gears of War: Reloaded Release Date Announced
Multiplatform Release
Gears of War has long been celebrated as an Xbox exclusive, becoming one of the flagship titles for the Microsoft console. However, in a significant shift, Xbox announced on Twitter (X) on May 6 that Gears of War: Reloaded will be available across all platforms on August 26, including the PS5.
This move underscores Xbox's commitment to expanding its exclusive titles to other platforms. In a January interview with GamerTag Radio, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer emphasized his support for this strategy, saying, "We love our platform and our hardware but we're not going to put walls up where people can engage with the great games our studios are building."
This approach may pave the way for future titles like the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day to also launch on multiple platforms simultaneously with PS5. While Xbox has not yet confirmed such plans, fans are eagerly watching for further announcements about other Xbox exclusives.
Faithful Remaster and Natively Optimized
The announcement of Gears of War: Reloaded took fans by surprise, especially since the original game had already been remastered with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition in 2015. In a detailed Xbox Wire post dated May 5, Mike Crump, Studio Head of developer The Coalition, shared insights into what players can expect from this new release.
Crump stated, "As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever."
Gears of War: Reloaded significantly enhances performance over its 2015 counterpart. While the Ultimate Edition ran at 1080p and 30fps in campaign mode, and 60fps in multiplayer, Reloaded ups the ante with 4k resolution at 60fps for the campaign, and an impressive 120fps for multiplayer. The game also boasts 4k assets, remastered textures, enhanced post-processing visual effects, improved shadows and reflections, and more.
The Xbox Wire post further elaborated, "Players will gain immediate access to all post-launch downloadable content at no additional cost — this includes the bonus Campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full roster of classic characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression."
Additionally, owners of The Ultimate Edition prior to the game's announcement will receive a free upgrade to Reloaded. A code for the upgrade will be sent to eligible Xbox accounts before the launch.
Gears of War: Reloaded is scheduled for release on August 26 and will be priced at $39.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will also be available on day one with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
