Genki CEO Reveals More Details About Nintendo Switch 2
Genki at CES 2025: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup
Genki, renowned for its gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key features and confirming several rumors. Based on a black market acquisition, the model accurately reflects the Switch 2's dimensions, showcasing a design shift towards a larger form factor, closer in size to the Valve Steam Deck.
Key features highlighted include magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic nature of the SL and SR buttons on the Joy-Cons, employing a pin-release mechanism for detachment. Despite the magnetic design, the Joy-Cons remain securely attached during gameplay.
More Than Meets the Eye: Optical Sensors and Dock Compatibility
Further details from Tsai revealed that the Joy-Con mounting channels incorporate optical sensors. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, a theory supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images. While the Switch 2's increased size allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remains a mystery.
