GTA 6 PC Release Delayed
The future of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) on PC remains unconfirmed, yet there are strong indications that it may eventually make its way to the platform. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick provided insights into the company's release strategy during an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025. While discussing the launch platforms for their upcoming titles, Zelnick hinted at a staggered release approach, similar to past releases by Rockstar Games.
GTA 6 on PC Unconfirmed, But Take-Two Shows Interest
Take-Two's CEO emphasized that while Civilization 7 will launch simultaneously on console and PC, other titles in their lineup might not follow the same path. Zelnick noted, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms." This statement aligns with the release history of major titles like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, which saw console releases before coming to PC.
GTA 5 was initially released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally reached PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018 and arrived on PC in November 2019. These patterns suggest that while a PC version of GTA 6 is not yet confirmed, it is a likely future development, in line with Rockstar's tradition of eventually bringing their major titles to PC.
Take-Two Confident About GTA 6 Sales Across All Platforms
Zelnick underscored the growing significance of the PC market, noting that PC versions of multiplatform games can contribute up to 40% of total sales. He expressed confidence in the sales potential of GTA 6 across all platforms, including consoles, despite reports of declining PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S sales. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he stated, suggesting that GTA 6 could drive console sales in 2025.
He further elaborated on the market trends, "I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC." This optimism about the PC market's growth supports the likelihood of GTA 6 eventually being released on PC.
GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been announced. For the latest updates on GTA 6, keep an eye on our dedicated Grand Theft Auto 6 page.
More Take-Two and Rockstar Games Possibly Releasing on Switch 2
During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick also discussed the potential for their games on the upcoming Switch 2 console. He highlighted their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and the evolving demographics of the Switch's user base. "The Switch device can support any audience," he remarked, indicating a shift in how they view the platform.
With Civilization 7 already confirmed for the Switch, Zelnick expressed a positive outlook: "While we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch." This suggests that future titles, possibly including GTA 6, could also find their way to the Switch 2, broadening the game's reach to a diverse audience.
