"Hollow Knight: Silksong Playable at Australian Museum in September 2025"
IGN has exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting Hollow Knight: Silksong. The highly anticipated game from Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, starting September 18, 2025. This comes as part of the museum's video game exhibition called Game Worlds, which will also showcase the game's design and artistic direction.
Team Cherry's Hollow Knight: Silksong has been at the top of the Steam wishlist chart for years, and while the studio has only given a vague 2025 release window, this playable event at ACMI marks a significant step forward. The exhibition promises to delve deep into the game's hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet's movements and attacks, as well as the logic behind its challenging boss fights.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement, stating, "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"
As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, showcasing some of the game's intricate design elements that will be on display. This exciting development has fans speculating that the game's release might occur before September 18, possibly as early as August.
The anticipation for Hollow Knight: Silksong continues to build. The game recently made a brief appearance at Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct, reaffirming Team Cherry's 2025 release window. Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with later additions for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been the subject of numerous teases, including a mysterious chocolate cake recipe at the start of 2025. As the release date approaches, the excitement among fans only grows stronger.
