inZOI Director Teases a Karma System
In an exciting update shared on Discord on February 7, 2025, inZOI's game director, Hyungjun Kim, unveiled plans for a Karma system that will transform deceased Zois into ghosts based on their accumulated Karma points.
While inZOI is renowned for its commitment to realism, Kim's tease of a paranormal element adds a fascinating twist. He explained, "If a Zoi dies with enough karma points, they move on to the afterlife, but those who don’t make the cut have to remain as ghosts until they restore sufficient karma points." Details on how to restore these points are yet to be disclosed, keeping players on the edge of their seats.
Kim further noted that the developers aim to balance the influence of ghosts on the game, stating, "We want to keep the playability of ghosts fairly limited so it doesn’t overshadow the main gameplay, but we also want to make sure the experience is engaging enough when it does happen." In the Early Access version, interactions with ghost Zois will be restricted to special conversations "at set times under certain conditions."
Expressing his vision for the game's future, Kim said, "While we’re committed to refining the realistic elements of inZOI first, I’d love to explore more fantasy-driven elements in the future. Occasionally stepping away from the game's native, ultra-realistic setting could add an extra layer of fun to our simulation of this vast and complex concept we call life!"
inZOI Karma Interaction Briefly Revealed
Back in August 2024, inZOI's publisher, Krafton Inc., collaborated with content creators to showcase the game through sponsored videos. One such creator, MadMorph, offered a sneak peek into inZOI's Karma system.
At the 15-minute mark of MadMorph’s video, he introduced "Karma Interactions," a feature where players can choose actions that affect their Karma points. A humorous example included his character secretly farting on another Zoi's face, which elicited a reaction from the NPC. Positive actions like "Throw Away Trash" or "Like a Friend’s post" were also available, though not demonstrated in the video.
While Kim emphasized that the Early Access version focuses on gameplay "while the Zois are still alive," he assured that the Karma Interactions will play a larger role in future updates. Fans eager to explore inZOI can mark their calendars for the game's Early Access launch on Steam, scheduled for March 28, 2025—just under six weeks away.
