The first issue boasts cover art by a stellar team: Casalanguida, Alex Diotto, Darick Robertson, and Jae Lee. The series will also feature a serialized backup story, Indigo Children: Exodus, a continuation of Pires' sci-fi series.

Image Comics provides this synopsis:

In Lost Fantasy, a hidden magical realm exists beneath our own. Over a century ago, a cataclysmic event bridged the two worlds, unleashing monsters into ours. Since then, elite monster hunters, known as The Great Hunters, have collaborated with global leaders to protect humanity. However, a recent massacre in Montana signals a significant shift, threatening both worlds. Rookie monster hunter Henry Blackheart must confront this escalating threat.

Pires shared his inspiration with IGN: "I'm thrilled to be back at Image with Lost Fantasy, a blend of Western comics like East of West and Something is Killing the Children, combined with the rich world-building and action of the JRPGs I loved growing up." He specifically cites Final Fantasy's influence, noting the protagonist's spiky hair and large sword as a direct homage to Cloud's design. He also acknowledges the subtle influence of Lost Odyssey, calling it a criminally underrated masterpiece.
