Marvel vs Capcom 2 Original Characters May Show Up in Capcom Fighting Games
Capcom Producer Hints at Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Character Revival in Future Fighting Games
Capcom producer Shuhei Matsumoto has fueled speculation about the return of beloved original characters from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in upcoming Capcom fighting games. Speaking at EVO 2024, Matsumoto stated that the possibility is "always there," hinting at a potential comeback for Amingo, Ruby Heart, and SonSon.
The upcoming release of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics provides a key opportunity, according to Matsumoto. This remastered collection, including Marvel vs. Capcom 2, will introduce a new generation of players to these iconic characters, potentially sparking renewed interest and paving the way for their return.
Matsumoto suggested that a successful reintroduction could even lead to appearances outside the Versus series, perhaps in Street Fighter 6 or other Capcom fighting titles. He emphasized the value of expanding the creative pool and the potential for increased fan engagement.
The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection itself has been a long-term goal for Capcom, involving extensive negotiations with Marvel and overcoming scheduling challenges. Matsumoto expressed Capcom's desire to not only create a new Versus title but also to revitalize other legacy fighting games by bringing them to modern platforms with updated features like rollback netcode.
He highlighted the team's commitment to re-releasing classic games to energize the community and acknowledged the complexities involved in collaborating with external partners. The future of these beloved characters, and other classic Capcom fighting game titles, remains uncertain but hinges heavily on fan enthusiasm and the success of the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection.
