Marvel mainstay Dan Slott returns to DC for Superman Unlimited
DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting May 2025, marking the return of Marvel Comics veteran writer Dan Slott to the DC universe.
Slott, renowned for his work on Marvel titles such as The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, will be penning this new Superman series. While he contributed to various DC books earlier in his career, including Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures, he's been exclusively with Marvel for the past two decades.
He'll be collaborating with artist Rafael Albuquerque (known for American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo. Slott expressed his excitement, stating that he's "been waiting [his] whole life to tell stories about him," referring to Superman. He promises a series full of surprising twists and turns for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Superman Unlimited introduces a perilous new reality for the Man of Steel. A Kryptonite asteroid shower leaves Earth saturated with Green K, empowering Superman's foes, such as Intergang, with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. This forces Superman to develop innovative technology and fighting strategies to combat this unprecedented threat. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia giant following its merger with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.
DC group editor Paul Kaminski compared the series' impact to that of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman in the early 2000s, highlighting the grand-scale adventures and significant ramifications for the wider DC Superman universe. The introduction of a massive Kryptonite deposit creates a world where even mundane crimes pose extraordinary dangers.
Kaminski further emphasizes the contrast between Superman Unlimited and the concurrently running Justice League Unlimited, highlighting the shift from unlimited heroes to unlimited, Kryptonite-empowered villains. He promises a series packed with surprises, both in writing and art.
A 10-page prelude story will launch in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 on May 3, 2025, followed by Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, preceding the July 11 release of James Gunn's Superman film.
