Marvel Mystery: Jon Hamm's Casting Quest

Author : Jonathan Update : Jan 21,2025

Jon Hamm, the acclaimed star of Mad Men, is closer than ever to making his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut. He's currently in discussions with Marvel Studios about adapting a specific comic book storyline that has piqued his interest. Hamm has openly admitted to pitching himself for multiple MCU roles.

Hamm's journey towards superhero stardom has been somewhat circuitous. He was previously slated to play Mister Sinister in Fox's X-Men franchise, a role that unfortunately fell through due to the troubled production of The New Mutants. His scenes were filmed but ultimately cut.

However, a recent Hollywood Reporter profile revealed Hamm's renewed interest in the MCU. He confirmed pitching himself for roles based on a comic book he admires, and after Marvel expressed interest in adapting the same comic, Hamm declared his suitability for the part.

While the specific comic book remains undisclosed, fan speculation is rampant, with many suggesting Doctor Doom as a prime candidate. Hamm himself previously voiced his enthusiasm for the role, further fueling the excitement. He's also mentioned the Fantastic Four as a franchise he'd enjoy being a part of, following the cancellation of his Mister Sinister appearance.

Hamm's career is characterized by his selective approach to roles, avoiding typecasting. His recent prominent appearances in Fargo and The Morning Show have solidified his place in the public eye, making him a frequently mentioned actor yet to join the MCU.

Despite turning down the role of Green Lantern, Hamm remains eager to portray a compelling comic book character. His past choices suggest a preference for villainous roles, making Doctor Doom a particularly intriguing possibility. However, with Galactus rumored as the antagonist in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, and no confirmation of Doctor Doom's inclusion, the situation remains fluid. The possibility of Hamm reprising Mister Sinister under Disney's direction also exists. Ultimately, the future of this collaboration remains to be seen.
