"Marvel Unveils New Star Wars Series on New Republic Era"
Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking fans on an exciting journey set after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. In this new series, iconic characters like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are on a mission to establish the New Republic and restore order in a galaxy still reeling from chaos.
Penned by acclaimed writer Alex Segura, who previously worked on the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, the series will feature artwork by the renowned Star Wars artist Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. The first issue's covers will be crafted by both Noto and Leinil Yu, promising a visually stunning start to the series.
Set approximately two years after the events of Return of the Jedi, the story unfolds in a hopeful new era where the New Republic strives to solidify its position as the galaxy's new governing body. However, as Luke and his allies work towards peace, they encounter new challenges from pirates, thieves, and other villains eager to exploit the existing power vacuum.
“Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."
Noto expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”
The eagerly anticipated Star Wars #1 is slated for release on May 7, 2025, perfectly timed to coincide with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't the only new comic Marvel has planned post-Return of the Jedi. In February, they will launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, a series delving into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
