Fashion Hunting Enters a New Era
For years, Monster Hunter players have longed for the freedom to wear any armor, regardless of gender. That dream is now a reality! During the Monster Hunter Wilds developer stream at Gamescom, Capcom confirmed this highly anticipated change: armor sets will be universally accessible.
A Capcom developer, while showcasing starting armors, stated, "In previous Monster Hunter games, male and female armor was separate. I'm pleased to announce that in Monster Hunter Wilds, that's no longer the case. All characters can wear any gear."
The announcement sparked widespread celebration within the Monster Hunter community, particularly among "fashion hunters" who prioritize aesthetics. Previously, players were restricted by gender-specific designs, missing out on desired armor pieces simply due to their assigned gender.
Imagine wanting to sport the Rathian skirt as a male hunter or don the Daimyo Hermitaur set as a female character, only to find these options unavailable. This limitation was frustrating, especially given the often contrasting styles: bulky designs for male armor and more revealing options for female armor.
The issue extended beyond mere aesthetics. In Monster Hunter: World, for example, a voucher system allowed gender changes, but subsequent vouchers required a purchase. This meant players wanting a specific armor set's look had to pay extra or start a new game.
While unconfirmed, Wilds will likely retain the "layered armor" system, allowing players to combine aesthetics and stats. Combined with the removal of gender restrictions, this unlocks unparalleled customization.
Beyond the gender-neutral armor, Gamescom also revealed two new monsters: Lala Barina and Rey Dau. For more on Monster Hunter Wilds' new features and creatures, see the linked article below!
