Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Ends Abruptly
Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Mortal Kombat: Onslaught less than a year after its launch. The mobile game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially shutting down on October 21st, 2024.
The reasons behind the closure remain undisclosed, although NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division (responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in company strategy.
Refunds for in-game purchases are currently unconfirmed. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have promised further information regarding refunds, advising players to monitor their official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates.
Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the series. Unlike its fighting-focused predecessors, this action-adventure RPG blended intense combat with a cinematic narrative, drawing comparisons to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game centered on Raiden and the player's team thwarting the fallen Elder God Shinnok's power grab.
