Netflix Set for AI-Generated Ads in 2026

Author : Max Update : May 19,2025

Netflix has announced its plan to introduce AI-generated advertising, including pause ads, within its programming on the ad-supported tier starting in 2026. This development, first reported by Media Play News, lacks specific details on how these ads will target viewers. It remains unclear whether the ads will be personalized based on viewing history or the content being watched at the time. At this stage, little is known about the backend operations or the presentation style of these ads, but they are definitely on their way.

During the recent Upfront for advertisers event in New York City, Amy Reinhard, President of Advertising at Netflix, highlighted the company's unique strengths. She stated, "Either they have great technology, or they have great entertainment. Our superpower has always been the fact that we have both." Reinhard emphasized that Netflix's ad-supported tier subscribers watch an average of 41 hours of content per month, which translates to approximately three hours of ads per month. This is significant, even without considering the AI aspect. By 2026, these ads will indeed be AI-generated.

Reinhard also pointed out that when compared to competitors, viewer attention on Netflix starts higher and remains higher throughout. Impressively, she noted that subscribers pay as much attention to mid-roll ads as they do to the shows and movies themselves. While Netflix has not yet provided an official implementation date for this change, the integration of AI into advertising is set to enhance the viewer experience on the platform's ad-supported tier.
