Nintendo Alarmo Alarm Clock Releases Before GTA 6

Surprise! Nintendo's 2024 lineup just got a lot more interesting with the launch of the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, a unique interactive alarm clock. This isn't your average wake-up call; it's designed to coax you out of bed with the sounds of your favorite Nintendo games. And, to add to the excitement, a mysterious Switch Online playtest has also been announced.

Priced at $99, the Alarmo uses game-inspired sounds from franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon to gently (or not so gently) rouse you from slumber. The innovative aspect? It's motion-activated. The alarm only stops when you've fully vacated your bed – a small victory in itself, some mornings!

Setting up the Alarmo is straightforward: choose a game theme, select a scene, set your wake-up time, and let the interactive fun begin. While waving your hand near the clock will temporarily quiet the alarm, prolonged bed-dwelling will result in a progressively louder wake-up call.

The magic behind the Alarmo lies in its radio wave sensor technology. This sensor measures your distance and movement speed without the need for video recording, ensuring enhanced privacy. The radio wave technology also allows for detection in dark rooms and even through obstacles. Nintendo developer Tetsuya Akama highlighted this privacy-focused approach, emphasizing the advantages over camera-based solutions.

For a limited time, Nintendo Switch Online members in the US and Canada can snag the Alarmo early via the My Nintendo Store. Those in New York City can also purchase it in person at the Nintendo New York store.

Nintendo Switch Online Playtest Announced

Applications Open October 10th!

Nintendo has also revealed an upcoming Switch Online playtest, with applications opening October 10th (8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET) and closing October 15th (7:59 AM PT / 10:59 AM ET). This playtest focuses on a new feature for the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Up to 10,000 participants will be selected. Those outside Japan will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications may close early if the participant limit is reached. To apply, you must:

• Have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership by October 9th, 2024, 3:00 PM PDT.
• Be at least 18 years old by October 9th, 2024, 3:00 PM PDT.
• Have a Nintendo Account registered in Japan, the USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain.

The playtest itself runs from October 23rd, 2024 (6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET) to November 5th, 2024 (4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET).
