Nintendo Quietly Confirms Cost of Switch 2 Upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree — and They're Not Cheap

Nintendo has officially revealed the pricing for upgrading two popular Switch games to their Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. However, fans might be in for a surprise as these upgrades come with a heftier price tag compared to other titles.

Previously, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom were available for a $9.99 upgrade from their original Switch versions to the Switch 2 Edition. However, as NintendoLife has noted, the upgrade costs for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are significantly higher, more than doubling the price at $19.99 each.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service within the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the Star-Crossed World. Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree’s Switch 2 Edition features Jamboree TV, which leverages the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. These editions also offer upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices have not yet been confirmed on the American Nintendo eShop, possibly due to ongoing tariff uncertainties, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, which is more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The same price applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99.

The higher upgrade costs may be linked to the $80 price tag of both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. In contrast, their original Switch versions are priced at $59.99 each.

For those not upgrading, here are the U.S. prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games:

  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. Unfortunately, no such offer exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders opened on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The demand was overwhelming, and Nintendo has warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to high demand.
