Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Release Date Delivery Not Guaranteed Due to High Demand
Nintendo has issued a crucial update for U.S. fans eagerly awaiting the launch of the Switch 2, following its earlier announcement about challenges in meeting demand in Japan. The company posted on its website that those who registered their interest in purchasing a Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store might not receive their console on the release date of June 5, 2025. This means that invitation emails for purchase could arrive after the console's official launch.
Nintendo expressed gratitude to those who have shown enthusiasm for the Switch 2, stating, "We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase."
In light of this situation, Nintendo suggests that fans might have a better chance of securing a Switch 2 at launch by pre-ordering through third-party retailers. However, this advice comes at a time when pre-orders at retailers like GameStop have already sold out following their availability overnight. Nintendo's statement directed fans to visit participating retail partners for better chances, while also reassuring those waiting for a My Nintendo Store invitation that no further action is needed after registering their interest.

The difficulty in pre-ordering the Switch 2 on April 24, combined with Nintendo's warning, indicates that obtaining the next-gen console at or around its launch will be challenging. Earlier in the week, Nintendo issued a similar warning to its customers in Japan, where 2.2 million people applied to pre-order the Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa highlighted that the overwhelming demand far exceeded the company's expectations and the available supply for the launch date.
According to the FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitations for the My Nintendo Store in the U.S. will start being sent out on May 8, 2025, with additional batches following periodically until the purchasing window opens to everyone. The initial invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible registrants meeting specific priority criteria. Those invited will have 72 hours from the receipt of the email to complete their purchase.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:
- You must have been the one who purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership.
- You must have had any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months.
- You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours total gameplay hours.
Last week, Nintendo confirmed that pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the U.S. would start on April 24, 2025, with the console priced at $449.99 and a launch date of June 5. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will remain priced at $499.99, with Mario Kart World available for $79.99 and Donkey Kong Bananza at $69.99. However, amidst ongoing tariff issues, Nintendo has increased the price of Switch 2 accessories.
Originally, pre-orders were planned to open on April 9, but Nintendo delayed them to assess the impact of tariffs and market conditions.
