NPCs' Persistence Unleashed in Hilarious Pokémon Gameplay
A Pokémon player is experiencing unexpected viral fame due to an overly persistent pair of NPCs. A short video shows the player trapped, their in-game phone incessantly ringing with calls from these two characters.
Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced a phone feature allowing players to receive calls from certain NPCs after battles. These calls can offer friendly updates, story details, or rematch opportunities. However, this player's game seems to have malfunctioned, resulting in a relentless barrage of calls from two enthusiastic trainers.
Pokémon enthusiast FodderWadder posted a clip showing them cornered in a Pokémon Center. The video begins with a call from Wade the Bug Catcher, detailing his Caterpie training and a recent Pidgey encounter. Before the player can react, Youngster Joey calls, requesting a rematch on Route 30.
The relentless ringing continues. After hanging up with Joey, the call repeats, followed immediately by another call from Wade, seemingly replaying his previous message.
The cause of this incessant calling is unclear. While Youngster Joey and the Pokémon Gold and Silver call system are known for repetitive calls, this level of persistence is unusual. FodderWadder suspects a save file glitch. Other players found the situation humorous, suggesting the NPCs simply enjoy chatting.
Although players can delete phone numbers, the game automatically answers incoming calls. FodderWadder eventually escaped the call loop, but the process proved challenging. Finding a brief pause between calls to access the menu, delete the numbers, and leave the Pokémon Center was difficult. The experience has left them hesitant to add any new numbers, fearing a repeat of the endless call loop.
