Path of Exile 2: Ritual Guide – Passives, Tributes, And Favours

Author : Christopher Update : Mar 21,2025

Path of Exile 2’s Atlas map features four major endgame events: Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. Rituals, drawing inspiration from the original Path of Exile’s Ritual League, are a significant endgame activity. This guide details how to initiate Ritual events, understand their mechanics, utilize the Ritual Passive Skill Tree, conquer the Pinnacle boss, and maximize rewards from the unique Tribute and Favour system.

PoE 2 Rituals & Altars Explained

Ritual Altar Icon

On the Atlas screen, map nodes hosting guaranteed endgame events are marked with specific icons. Ritual Altar nodes display a red pentagram with a demonic face. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, slotted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual encounter on a chosen Atlas node.

Entering a map with a Ritual encounter spawns several Altars. Each map features a shared random modifier altering the event with unique mechanics or enemies. These modifiers might introduce massive rat swarms, or areas of life-draining blood pools, for example. Examine the Altar modifiers before interacting to initiate a large enemy wave.

The map darkens around the Altar; remain within this zone to defeat all enemies and complete the Ritual. Leaving the designated area prematurely ends the event with no rewards. A map is considered complete once all Rituals are successfully finished.

Ritual Pinnacle Boss: The King in the Mists

Among the randomized Ritual rewards, you might find "An Audience With The King." This currency item unlocks The Crux of Nothingness, home to the King in the Mists, the Ritual Pinnacle Boss. Place "An Audience With The King" in your Realmgate on the Atlas map to access this fight.

The King in the Mists shares mechanics with his Act 1 campaign counterpart. Practice encounters are available in Act 1 Cruel difficulty, within the Freythorn zone.

Defeating the King in the Mists rewards 2 Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at a unique PoE 2 item from a dedicated pool, powerful Currencies, and Omen items.

Ritual Passive Skill Tree

Ritual Passive Skill Tree

The Atlas Passive Skill Tree includes a Ritual section, offering modifiers to enhance rewards. Access it via the top-left button on the Atlas Map screen, located in the bottom right. This red, five-pronged tree features eight Notable nodes and eight nodes increasing King in the Mists difficulty.

Victories over the Crux of Nothingness grant 2 Ritual Passive Skill points; increased difficulty is required for each new Notable node.

Prioritize "From The Mists," "Spreading Darkness," and "Ominous Portents" for increased rewards with minimal drawbacks. Then, focus on "Tempting Offers" and "He Approaches" for enhanced Omen and "An Audience With The King" chances.

PoE 2 Ritual Event Rewards

Tribute and Favour System

Completed Rituals reward Tribute, a temporary currency exchanged for randomized Favours. More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock more Favour options. Initially, Favours are low-level; later options include Rare gear and high-tier Currencies. "An Audience With The King" is exclusively obtained via Favours.

Favours may contain powerful Omen items, enhancing other Currency items. Omens are consumed upon use. Examples include Omens of Annulment (restricting modifier removal) and Omens of Alchemy (limiting added modifiers). Omens are highly sought after and valuable for crafting.

Beyond Tribute and Favours, Ritual enemies drop high-tier Currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.). Unlike the Simulacrum boss, the King in the Mists offers a chance at unique items from a dedicated pool.
