Niantic has announced the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year 2025 event, starting January 29th, offering players chances to catch Lucky Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and other exciting rewards. Similar to the Fashion Week event, completing Field Research tasks will yield bonus rewards.
This event is part of Pokémon GO's ninth-anniversary celebrations in 2025, with several events and updates planned leading up to the summer and Pokémon GO Fest. Preceding the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova (February 21st-23rd in Los Angeles and New Taipei City, global event in March), Lunar New Year provides a chance to add new Pokémon to your collection.
The Pokémon GO Lunar New Year event runs from January 29th, 10:00 a.m. to February 2nd, 8:00 p.m. local time. Niantic promises increased chances of obtaining Lucky Pokémon through trades and becoming Lucky Friends. Wild encounters will feature Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini, with boosted Shiny rates. 2km Eggs will hatch Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi.

- Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi hatching from 2km Eggs.
- Rewards: Timed Research, Field Research, and Routes offer Stardust, XP, Zygarde Cells, and Pokémon encounters.
- Paid Timed Research ($2): Includes two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and additional encounters.
Lunar New Year-themed Field Research and Timed Research, along with Routes, will reward Stardust, XP, and event Pokémon encounters. Zygarde Cells are obtainable through Routes. A paid Timed Research ($2) offers enhanced rewards: two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and Ekans and Nosepass encounters. Remember to claim all rewards before February 2nd, 8:00 p.m. local time.
Players can showcase their Lunar New Year Pokémon at PokéStops for additional item bundle rewards. An event-themed Collection Challenge will also grant extra Stardust for trading, benefiting frequent traders.
