Sims Creator's New Game: Proxi - Details Unveiled
Will Wright, the mastermind behind The Sims, recently shared fresh insights into his upcoming AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. Initially announced in 2018, details have been scarce until a recent teaser. Now, with Wright's appearance on BreakthroughT1D's channel, we have a clearer picture of this innovative title from Gallium Studio.
BreakthroughT1D, a leading organization dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research, utilizes Twitch livestreams to raise funds and awareness. Their "Dev Diaries" series features game developers, and Wright's episode provided a fascinating look at Proxi.
At its core, Proxi is an AI life sim built directly from your personal memories. Players input their recollections in paragraph form, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for a more accurate representation. Each added memory ("mem") trains the game's AI and expands the player's "mind world," a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons.
This mind world grows richer with the addition of Proxies—representations of friends and family—as more memories are incorporated. Memories are freely arranged on a timeline and linked to specific Proxies, creating a dynamic and personalized narrative. Remarkably, Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox!
Wright emphasizes Proxi's focus on creating "magical connections with memories and bringing them to life." This personal approach, driven by the use of player memories, is intentional. He humorously noted, "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players," highlighting the game's inherent appeal through its personalized nature.
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon. The game promises a unique and deeply personal gaming experience unlike any other.
