Skyblivion Releasing in 2023

Author : Liam Update : Feb 25,2025

Skyblivion, a fan-made recreation of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's engine, is slated for a 2025 release.

A recent developer update stream confirmed the team's commitment to this ambitious goal. Developed by volunteer modders, Skyblivion represents a monumental undertaking, demanding years of dedication and effort. Despite the scale, the team remains confident in a 2025 launch, stating their hope to "finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation."

The project transcends a simple one-to-one remake. The developers are significantly enhancing various aspects of the original Oblivion, including ensuring "unique items are actually unique" and bolstering the impact of existing bosses, particularly Mannimarco. The stream showcased the "A Brush with Death" quest, demonstrating the impressive visual fidelity achieved.

Adding another layer of intrigue is the persistent rumor of an official Oblivion remake. Details of a potential official remake surfaced earlier this year, suggesting alterations to combat and other elements. While Microsoft declined to comment, the existence of an Oblivion remaster was hinted at in documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial.

The possibility of a simultaneous official release poses a potential challenge for Skyblivion. Bethesda's games have a rich history of community modding, and the team hopes to avoid the fate of Fallout London, which encountered difficulties shortly before its intended release. The success of Skyblivion remains a testament to the dedication of its creators and the enduring appeal of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
