Star Wars Game Unveils Intriguing Newcomer
Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles Adds Jar Jar Binks and More Playable Characters
Aspyr has unveiled a surprising addition to the upcoming Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles re-release for modern consoles: the infamous Jar Jar Binks is now a playable character! A new trailer showcases Jar Jar wielding a large staff in action-packed gameplay.
This isn't the only new addition. Aspyr has already revealed nine other playable characters, with more promised before launch. The original 2000 release of Jedi Power Battles featured beloved characters and locations from The Phantom Menace, and this updated version aims to capture that nostalgia while adding exciting new content. Beyond new characters, enhancements include customizable lightsaber colors and cheat code support.
The Jar Jar Binks gameplay trailer shows the Gungan using his signature staff to battle enemies, accompanied by his characteristically chaotic dialogue. While some may have hoped for a more "Darth Jar Jar"-esque twist, this version stays true to the character's clumsy, comical nature.
Jar Jar Binks will be available when Jedi Power Battles launches on January 23rd. Pre-orders are now open.
New Playable Characters Revealed:
- Jar Jar Binks
- Rodian
- Flame Droid
- Gungan Guard
- Destroyer Droid
- Ishi Tib
- Rifle Droid
- Staff Tusken Raider
- Weequay
- Mercenary
Aspyr's commitment to expanding the roster is evident, with a diverse range of new characters joining the fray, including familiar faces like the Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian, alongside various droid types. The addition of a second Gungan character, the Gungan Guard, further demonstrates the breadth of this update.
With the release date fast approaching, fans can soon experience these new additions firsthand. Aspyr's past experience remastering classic Star Wars titles, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, offers hope that Jedi Power Battles will be a satisfying update for long-time fans.
