Star Wars: Hunter shutting down in late 2025, final content update next month
Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's inaugural venture into the Star Wars franchise, is set to close its doors just over a year after its launch on iOS and Android. The game, which debuted in June 2024, quickly captivated players with its unique blend of game show elements and innovative takes on Star Wars archetypes.
However, it has been announced that Star Wars: Hunters will officially shut down on October 1st of this year. A final content update is scheduled to be released on April 15th. In response to the closure, Zynga has made in-game currency eligible for refunds and plans to rerun certain seasonal events as part of an extended third season.
Fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of the final hunter, Tuya, will be pleased to know that they will still be able to experience Tuya in multiplayer mode. Tuya will be introduced in the final content update and will be available to all players for free from the start.
The End of the Journey
The announcement of Star Wars: Hunters' closure came as a surprise to many, as there were few signs that the game was underperforming. Given Zynga's robust standing in the industry, it's likely that the decision to shutter the game was influenced by factors beyond mere performance metrics.
One possible reason for the game's closure could be the oversaturation of the pseudo-hero shooter genre, coupled with a shifting demographic of Star Wars fans. The average Star Wars enthusiast is now older and may not be as interested in a high-octane multiplayer experience on their mobile devices.
