Starfield PS5 Release Rumors Surge After PlayStation Logo Spotted in Development

Author : Hunter Update : May 15,2025

Speculation about Starfield coming to PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend after fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. The logo was linked to a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield, which was subsequently removed. This has led fans to believe that Bethesda's sci-fi game, which has so far been exclusive to PC and Xbox, might soon be available on PS5.

They have added the Playstation logo to a creation. (I think they are beta testers, the logo only appears on one creation)

The discovery has sparked discussions about whether Bethesda is planning a major content update or perhaps even a new expansion to coincide with Starfield's potential PS5 release. Following the lukewarm reception of the Shattered Space expansion, there's been a noticeable lack of updates and communication from Bethesda about Starfield. However, Microsoft, Bethesda's parent company, is expected to hold its annual summer showcase, which could be the perfect opportunity to reveal more about Starfield's future.

Bethesda has hinted at "exciting things" planned for Starfield this year, amidst growing fan frustration over the lack of news. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Starfield and confirmed plans for at least one more story expansion after Shattered Space. In an interview with the YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard mentioned the studio's goal to release annual story expansions for "hopefully a very long time."

Starfield was launched in September 2023, marking Bethesda's first new intellectual property in years and its first major single-player game since Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media in March 2021. IGN's review of Starfield gave it a 7/10, noting: "Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist."

In January, Microsoft's gaming chief Phil Spencer hinted at the possibility of Starfield coming to PS5, refusing to rule it out. Reports from March 2024 also suggested that Starfield and MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were being considered for PS5. While Indiana Jones was confirmed for PS5 with a spring 2025 release, Starfield remains unconfirmed, though Spencer's comments have kept the speculation alive.

Several Xbox titles are already available on PS5, including Rare's Sea of Thieves, Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush, and Obsidian's Grounded and Pentiment. Microsoft, which also publishes Minecraft on PlayStation consoles, plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Additionally, Playground's Forza Horizon 5 is slated for a PS5 release soon. There are even rumors that Microsoft might bring Halo to PlayStation after decades of exclusivity.

Spencer has explained that Xbox's multiplatform strategy is partly driven by the need to generate more revenue for Microsoft's gaming division, especially after the significant $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

"We run a business," Spencer stated last August. "It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company. Because we get a level of support from the company that’s just amazing and what we’re able to go do.

"So I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It’s just going to be a strategy that works for us."

Bethesda Game Studios, currently comprising 450 staff members, is juggling multiple projects including Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile games, and external development partnerships.
