Nintendo Switch 2 anticipation builds with strong third-party support

The gaming world is buzzing with anticipation as we approach the Nintendo Switch 2 launch window. Amid swirling discussions about pricing strategies, import tariffs, and retail distribution models, one major publisher stands out with particularly bullish expectations: Take-Two Interactive.

Take-Two's Vote of Confidence

During today's investor Q&A session following their fiscal year earnings report, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed glowing optimism about Nintendo's upcoming console. When questioned about Take-Two's commitment to the platform, Zelnick revealed ambitious plans:

"We're preparing four major titles for Nintendo Switch 2's launch lineup - marking our most substantial content offering ever for a new Nintendo platform. While third-party publishing on Nintendo systems historically presented challenges, we've seen remarkable progress in Nintendo's partnership approach. Our enthusiasm reflects this improved collaboration. That said, we maintain our platform-by-platform evaluation strategy - we'll follow our audience while maintaining quality standards. Not every game makes sense for every system, but we do see exciting possibilities for catalog titles."

The Launch Lineup

Take-Two's confirmed Switch 2 releases include highly anticipated titles:

  • Civilization 7 (June 5 launch date)
  • New installments from both the NBA 2K and WWE 2K franchises
  • Borderlands 4 (September 12 release)

While these represent established franchises already available on Switch, Zelnick's remarks hint at potential expansions to their Nintendo portfolio. Though a Switch 2 port of GTA 6 seems improbable given technical constraints, industry watchers speculate about possible legacy title releases - perhaps even GTA V finding its way to Nintendo's ecosystem eventually.

Ahead of the investor briefing, we had the opportunity to discuss several topics with Zelnick directly, including insights into GTA 6's development progress following its recent delay announcement pushing the release into next year.
