Metro 2033's "Cursed" Mission: A Comprehensive Guide

Despite its age, Metro 2033 remains a fan favorite, especially since the release of the VR title, Metro Awakening. This guide focuses on a particularly challenging mission early in Artyom's journey: "Cursed," set in Moscow's Turgenevskaya station (as it's known in the books and reality). This mission often trips players up due to unclear objectives and confusing station layout. It follows the anomaly-induced nosalis wipeout, with Khan leading Artyom via railcar to the next area.

Locating the Bomb

After exiting the railcar and reaching the barricaded escalators, speak with the defenders. They'll explain a missing explosives crew tasked with collapsing the tunnel to stop the nosalis onslaught. Your task: find and detonate the bomb. Expect constant nosalis attacks; retreat to the defenders for support if overwhelmed (expect to do this at least once).

The bomb is located at the far end of the right-hand tunnel. Avoid the ghostly shadows directly ahead; they'll damage Artyom. Retrieve the bomb and either proceed to the adjacent tunnel or retreat if necessary.

Destroying the Tunnel

To detonate the bomb, enter the left-hand tunnel (from the defenders' perspective). A cutscene will trigger, showing Artyom planting and lighting the fuse. Escape immediately; the blast is lethal at close range. Alternatively, a grenade or pipe bomb in the same tunnel area will achieve the same result. Note: nosalises will still infiltrate through other routes.

Destroying the Airlock

Securing the station requires one more step: destroying the airlock. This is mentioned in the initial conversation. Ascend the stairs on the right of the main platform to the torchlit area (ignore the nosalises). Interact with the support columns to plant and detonate a pipe bomb, then evacuate quickly. With both tunnel and airlock compromised, follow Khan to a shrine room, leading to the "Armory" mission.
