The Witcher 4: everything we know so far

The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.

Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, steps into the spotlight as the famed witcher's adventures seemingly conclude. The teaser shows Ciri intervening in a village's disturbing ritualistic sacrifice, hinting at a darker storyline than initially perceived.

While a release date remains unannounced, considering the development times of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, a 3-4 year wait for Witcher 4 seems likely. Given the early stage of production, a concrete timeframe remains elusive.

Platform specifics are yet to be revealed, but given the projected timeline, a next-gen console exclusive is anticipated. PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC releases are expected simultaneously. Unlike Witcher 3's Switch port, a similar feat for Witcher 4 seems unlikely, although a potential Switch 2 release is possible.

Gameplay details are scarce, but the CGI trailer offers glimpses of familiar elements: potions, Signs, and combat. A new addition might be Ciri's chain, utilized for both trapping monsters and channeling magic.

Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, though not as the central figure. The trailer includes Geralt's voice, suggesting a mentor role.
