Alienware Slashes Prices on RTX 4090 Gaming PCs

Author : Ellie Update : May 06,2025

The GeForce RTX 4090, though a generation older than the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains a formidable force in the world of graphics cards. It outshines the RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX, with only the RTX 5090 surpassing its performance. However, the RTX 5090 is notoriously difficult to find without significant markups, making the RTX 4090 a highly sought-after option for gamers seeking top-tier performance.

As the RTX 4090 has been discontinued, finding one has become increasingly challenging. Fortunately, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PC models that can be configured with this powerful GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16, starting at $2,999.99, and the Dell Tower Plus, starting at $2,849.99, are currently the best deals available for an RTX 4090-equipped system. Other manufacturers, such as Lenovo and HP, have stopped offering RTX 4090 prebuilt PCs.

This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The processor can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though for gaming, the default Intel Core Ultra 7 265F is more than sufficient. It boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz and 20 cores, cooled by a robust 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The Dell Tower Plus, while less flashy in appearance, offers similar high-end specs: an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. For an additional $100, upgrading to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K is recommended, as it not only provides superior performance but also enhances the CPU cooling to an advanced air cooling system with a 125W TDP rating. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?

The RTX 4090 is the most powerful GPU in the RTX 40 series, only surpassed by the RTX 5090 from the Blackwell series, which carries a $2,000 MSRP. It delivers exceptional performance at 4K resolution, comfortably achieving over 60 fps with maximum settings and ray tracing enabled, especially when utilizing DLSS. The only challenge it faces is with path tracing, a feature rarely used outside of benchmarks and social media showcases. For most gamers, the RTX 4090's performance is more than adequate, making the RTX 5090's superior power largely unnecessary.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 may be large and expensive, but it truly excels in performance. As the only card of its generation currently available, it's unfair to compare it to older models. Yet, with its impressive hardware and DLSS 3 AI technology, the $1,599 price tag feels justified for the unparalleled frame rates it delivers."

Dell also offers an Alienware Aurora R16 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. According to our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review by Jackie, "If you already own a high-end graphics card from recent years, the RTX 5080 might not be worth the upgrade due to its marginal performance increase over the RTX 4080. However, for those with older GPUs seeking a significant boost, the RTX 5080 is a solid choice, especially with the added benefits of DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation."
