Atari Revives 5 Shelved Ubisoft Franchises for New Platforms
Atari has secured the rights to five largely inactive game franchises from Ubisoft: Child of Eden, Cold Fear, Grow Home, Grow Up, and I Am Alive.
The company plans to "reintroduce these iconic games to players, making them available on new platforms and through updated publishing models." All titles will be re-released under the Atari label and will become accessible "on new platforms."
"Countless players have explored these franchises over the years, and this move allows longtime fans to relive cherished moments while introducing these experiences to new audiences," stated Deborah Papiernik, Ubisoft's Vice President of New Business.
"Atari brings a deep-rooted legacy in gaming and a genuine respect for classic titles. We are eager to witness how they creatively revitalize these IPs and engage players in new and meaningful ways."
This collaboration is not Ubisoft's only strategic move this year. In March, Ubisoft established a new subsidiary built around its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six brands, supported by a €1.16 billion (approximately $1.25 billion) investment from Tencent.
The company has also teamed up with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund to develop additional content for Assassin's Creed Mirage.
These strategic steps follow a challenging period marked by several high-profile failures, staff reductions, studio shutdowns, and project cancellations leading up to the launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows. The company faced immense pressure to deliver strong results after its share price dropped to a record low.
