Code Geass: Lost Stories to End Global Mobile Run Soon

Fans of the strategic tower defense game Code Geass: Lost Stories, inspired by the beloved anime and manga series Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, will be saddened to learn that the global mobile version is set to shut down. While the Japanese version will continue to entertain its audience, the global servers are waving goodbye to players. The game, a collaborative effort between Sunrise (creators of the manga), developers f4samurai and DMM Games, and publisher Komoe, was launched worldwide in September 2023. Unfortunately, it won't reach its first anniversary.

When Is It Shutting Down?

Code Geass: Lost Stories will cease operations on August 29th, 2024. Players have a limited window to enjoy the game before servers close, and accounts will no longer be accessible. The game's official global social media accounts are also scheduled to close on the same date. As of today, new downloads and in-game purchases are no longer available. Despite its struggles globally, the game continues to be enjoyed by many in Japan.

Why Is Code Geass: Lost Stories Shutting Down?

Combining elements of RPG, action, and tower defense genres, Code Geass: Lost Stories drew from a popular anime franchise. Yet, the developers have not disclosed specific reasons for the shutdown, though the reasons seem clear. The game suffered from low download numbers and received few positive reviews on the global market. Like many licensed anime gacha games, it struggled to maintain a significant player base outside of Japan, where players are more likely to engage and spend. Thus, the early shutdown of Code Geass: Lost Stories may not come as a shock to many.

For those in Japan interested in trying the game, it's still available on the Google Play Store.
