Cyberpunk 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port Updates
Featuring Multiple Cities
Project Orion is set to expand the Cyberpunk universe beyond Night City. At the Digital Dragons 2025 conference on May 20, R. Talsorian Games founder and game designer Mike Pondsmith shared insights on the sequel's development. Although Pondsmith isn't as directly involved as he was with Cyberpunk 2077, he's still closely monitoring the project. "I see the scripts. Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments and seeing what they had like, ‘this is the new Cyberware, what do you think?’" he remarked.
Pondsmith revealed that the sequel will include another city alongside Night City. "I remember looking at it and going, ‘I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong’. And I said, ‘yeah, I can see this working’," he noted.
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has also posted new job listings for Cyberpunk 2 earlier this year, including a Lead Encounter Designer role. This position involves "helping formulate solutions for and help create memorable gameplay encounters that will thrill and excite our players." The job listing emphasizes creating groundbreaking features, such as "working in close collaboration with the systems design team to create the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date."
Though details about Project Orion remain scarce, the insights from Pondsmith and CDPR’s ongoing recruitment suggest that Cyberpunk 2 will build upon its predecessor’s renowned world-building and intricate storytelling.
New Footage for Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port
In other news, CDPR has released new footage showcasing the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 port, highlighting their efforts to optimize the game for Nintendo's upcoming handheld console. Over 37 minutes of B-roll videos are available on CDPR’s website, demonstrating the game running on the Switch 2.
Reports from Nintendo Switch 2 showcase events in New York and Paris earlier this year indicated performance issues, particularly frame drops. According to Business Insider, "Cyberpunk 2077 is such an intensive game that playing on the Switch 2 is a fun novelty, but this definitely isn't the best way to play CyberPunk. I encountered lots of frame drops."
Despite these challenges, CDPR Engineer Tim Green expressed satisfaction with the port's progress. In an interview with Game File on April 25, Green stated, "We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result."
