DCU TV Show Peacemaker Season 2 Has a Release Date and a Few Seconds of New Footage

DC Studios boss James Gunn has officially announced that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this exciting news, Gunn shared a brief clip of new footage, featuring John Cena in action. In one scene, Cena's character, Peacemaker, smirks at the camera amidst a backdrop of flames, and is referred to as "a superhero now."

In a tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @StreamOnMax August 21."

Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the July 11 release of Superman, marking the big-screen launch of Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe (DCU). It will be the third entry in this new cinematic universe, succeeding last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, certain elements from the DCEU will persist, with Peacemaker being a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the now-defunct DCEU, Season 2 will be fully integrated into the new DCU.

Gunn has assured fans that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics about what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He confirmed that all of Team Peacemaker will return with the same cast, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn mentioned that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
