Fox confirmed the planned simultaneous release of Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 on PC, Switch, and PS4, as announced in his Halloween 2023 newsletter. While Chapter 4 is almost finished – maps are complete, battles are playable – polishing remains. Minor tweaks to cutscenes, battle balancing, visual improvements, and background enhancements are still needed. Despite this, Fox considers Chapter 4 largely playable and has received positive feedback from testers.

The Challenges of a Paid Release

The multi-platform and multilingual release presents significant hurdles. Fox highlighted the increased effort required for a paid release compared to the free Chapters 1 and 2, emphasizing the need for a polished, bug-free experience.

Pre-Release Tasks:

Before launch, the team must complete several key tasks:

  • Testing new features
  • Finalizing PC and console versions
  • Japanese localization
  • Thorough bug testing

A Glimpse into the Future:

Chapter 3 development is finished (as per Fox's February newsletter). Interestingly, preliminary work on Chapter 5 has already begun, with map creation and battle design underway.

While a release date remains unannounced, the newsletter offered a sneak peek at new content, including dialogue, character descriptions (Elnina), and a new item (GingerGuard). Fox assures fans that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will be longer than the first two chapters.

The wait continues, but Fox remains optimistic about a smoother release schedule for future chapters following the launch of Chapters 3 and 4.
