EA Skate Adds Microtransactions Pre-Launch

Author : Madison Update : Apr 03,2025

In a significant update to the eagerly awaited revival of Skate, EA has introduced microtransactions during the latest alpha test phase. According to reports from Insider Gaming, Full Circle, the developer behind the project, has integrated a virtual currency called San Van Bucks into the ongoing closed alpha test of EA's free-to-play Skate game. Players can now use real-world money to purchase these San Van Bucks, which can then be used to acquire cosmetic items within the game. Full Circle's intention is to refine Skate's microtransaction system, ensuring players have a "positive experience when purchasing items from the Skate store." They are actively seeking feedback to enhance the experience at the game's early access launch.

Full Circle has also informed testers that all progress made during the alpha test will be reset before Skate enters early access. However, any purchases made with San Van Bucks will be converted back into the virtual currency and made available again when early access begins. This move is designed to ensure that players' investments are not lost during the transition.

Skate's early access is slated for 2025, a timeline that was first hinted at during EA Play back in 2020 when the game was described as being in its "very early" stages of development. Since then, Full Circle has maintained an open line of communication with the community through closed playtests and regular updates via their "The Board Room" video series. In 2022, the developer officially named the game 'skate.' and confirmed its release as a free-to-play title across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms.
