eSports Shock: Turtle Beach Breaks Up With Dr. Disrespect
Following recent allegations surrounding his 2020 Twitch ban, Turtle Beach has severed ties with Dr Disrespect. The gaming accessory company, a long-time sponsor and partner of the controversial streamer, even collaborated on a branded headset.
The allegations, stemming from claims by former Twitch employee Cody Conners, involve Dr Disrespect (Herschel “Guy” Beahm IV) allegedly sexting a minor via Twitch's Whispers feature and attempting an in-person meeting. While the reasons for his 2020 ban remained unclear until now, these claims have prompted several partners to re-evaluate their relationships.
Turtle Beach confirmed to IGN the termination of its partnership, ending a multi-year deal signed in 2020 that included sponsorship of its ROCCAT brand and the release of a co-branded headset. Dr Disrespect's merchandise has since been removed from Turtle Beach's website.
This isn't Dr Disrespect's only recent setback. Midnight Society, a game studio he co-founded, also announced a split following the surfacing of these allegations. While Midnight Society initially presumed his innocence, they ultimately decided to end their collaboration.
Dr Disrespect vehemently denies the allegations, claiming no wrongdoing and asserting the matter was resolved with Twitch in 2020. He has also announced a temporary break from streaming, citing the need for a vacation that may now be extended due to the current circumstances. The duration of his absence and his future plans remain uncertain.
