Fans Vote on Yakuza Merch: From Cult Clothes to Traffic Cones
Yakuza / Like a Dragon is marking its 20th anniversary this year, and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is inviting fans to participate in a unique way. To celebrate, they're allowing the community to vote on upcoming official merchandise. The options range from the usual suspects like a 20th anniversary celebration hoodie and a Yakuza themed pencil case, to the downright bizarre—think cult clothes, a traffic cone, golden underwear, and more.
As reported by Automaton, fans have the opportunity to choose from an impressive 100 different items, with RGG Studio promising to put the top two vote-getters on sale within the next two years. While the competition is listed in Japanese, votes can be easily submitted on the official website.
Some of the items up for vote are deeply rooted in the franchise's famously wild history. For instance, you can vote for the cult outfit worn by Munan Suzuki, the leader of The Order of Munan Chohept Onast in Yakuza 0, or the massive traffic cone Majima uses to ambush Kiryu in Yakuza Kiwami. Other quirky options include the "Puffy Gold Pants," the sake Majima drinks in a shack in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Akiyama's gold watch, Kiryu's fountain pen from Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Kashiwagi's tambourine from Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Kiryu's wrestling mask from Yakuza 3, and Saejima's prisoner uniform from Yakuza 4, among many other oddities.
The franchise is set to continue its legacy with at least one new entry in its 20th anniversary year of 2025. Fans can look forward to Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, slated for release on February 21. RGG Studio previously celebrated the 10th anniversary with the beloved prequel Yakuza 0, but no similar projects have been announced for later in the year yet.
While the idea of two releases in one year might seem ambitious, RGG Studio is no stranger to rapid development cycles. Over the last five years, they've released Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Judgment Remastered, Lost Judgment, Like a Dragon: Ishin, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, along with two Super Monkey Ball games and an enhanced remaster of Virtua Fighter 5. That's a total of nine games, showcasing their impressive productivity and dedication to their fanbase.
