Keanu Reeves Pitches Constantine 2 to DC Studios, Script Now in Development
Keanu Reeves has sparked excitement among fans with the most promising update yet on Constantine 2, revealing that the project is now moving forward with a script in development. John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was brought to life by Reeves in the 2005 film, which has since become a cult classic. For two decades, fans and Reeves himself have expressed a desire for a sequel, and it appears that dream might soon become a reality.
In a recent interview with Inverse, Reeves shared that after years of trying to make Constantine 2, they have finally crafted a story and pitched it to DC Studios, who have given it the green light to proceed to scriptwriting. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’" Reeves explained. "So, we're going to try and write a script."

While this development is exciting, it's important to note that Constantine 2 is not yet a confirmed project in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU). DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have not mentioned the sequel as part of their plans. Therefore, the project remains on the edge of possibility, pending further approval.
Reeves also hinted that if Constantine 2 comes to fruition, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, adding humorously, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who, in an interview with ComicBook in September, mentioned that a script for Constantine 2 was already in his inbox. However, he admitted to being hesitant to read it due to his high hopes for the project. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
