The Voodoo Doll is considered one of the more manageable Cursed Possessions to use in Phasmophobia due to its favorable risk-reward ratio. Even with updates that have altered its benefits, it remains a valuable option.

The primary function of the Voodoo Doll is to compel the ghost to perform actions that reveal evidence, achieved by inserting pins into the doll one at a time. This technique is particularly effective when dealing with elusive or silent ghosts, as it can prompt them to generate evidence like EMF5 readings or Ultraviolet prints.

You have a total of 10 pins to use, but be cautious of the risks. Each pin inserted will reduce your sanity by 5%. Inserting all pins will deplete up to 50% of your sanity, significantly increasing the likelihood of ghost hunts.

The most critical risk is the pin located in the doll’s heart. Inserting pins is random, and if you hit the heart pin, your sanity will drop by an additional 10%, and a Cursed Hunt will immediately begin. During a Cursed Hunt, the ghost will spawn near you and pursue you for an extended period (20 seconds longer than standard hunts).

Despite these risks, the Voodoo Doll can be a worthwhile tool for gathering evidence if you approach its use with preparation and caution.

What Are Cursed Objects (Possessions) in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Possessions, often referred to as “Cursed Objects,” are unique items in Phasmophobia that randomly appear across various maps, influenced by difficulty settings or the specific mode you're playing, such as Challenge Mode.

Unlike regular equipment, which helps locate ghosts and gather evidence with minimal risk, Cursed Objects serve as shortcuts to manipulate ghost behavior, but at a much higher risk to your character.

The safety of using these objects varies based on their specific abilities, and the decision to use them is up to you and your team. There’s no penalty for opting out. Typically, only one Cursed Possession will spawn per contract, though this can be modified in Custom settings.

The game features seven different Cursed Objects, including:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
