Monster Hunter Wilds Surpasses 8 Million Units Sold in 3 Days and Is the Fastest Capcom Game to Do So

Author : Daniel Update : Apr 13,2025

Monster Hunter Wilds has achieved a remarkable feat by selling over eight million units in just three days, setting a new record as the fastest-selling game in Capcom's history. This impressive launch surpasses the initial shipment numbers of its predecessors, with Monster Hunter World shipping five million copies in 2018 and Monster Hunter Rise shipping four million in 2021.

The success of Monster Hunter Wilds is further highlighted by its performance on Steam, where it exceeded one million concurrent players during its opening weekend. This surge in popularity helped the game surpass Cyberpunk 2077, making it the 7th most-played game ever on the platform. Additionally, Monster Hunter Wilds played a significant role in Steam reaching a new milestone of 40 million concurrent players for the first time.

In our review of Monster Hunter Wilds, we noted that the game "continues to smooth off the rougher corners of the series in smart ways, making for some extremely fun fights but also lacking any real challenge." This indicates that while the game is highly enjoyable, it may not provide the same level of difficulty that some fans of the series might expect.

The Monster Hunter franchise, which began in 2004 on the PlayStation 2, has now sold over 108 million units as of December 31, 2024, showcasing its enduring popularity and growth over the years.
