Mugen Project Renamed "Ananta," New Trailer Unleashed

Naked Rain and NetEase's upcoming open-world RPG, formerly known as Project Mugen, has been officially rebranded as Ananta. Initially unveiled at Gamescom 2023, the game recently released a new trailer after a prolonged period of silence, promising further details on December 5th. You can view the official trailer below:

The reason behind the name change remains undisclosed by the developers. However, "Ananta," meaning "infinite" in Sanskrit, aligns with the original "Mugen," which carries the same meaning. This consistency is further reflected in the Chinese title. While the name change has sparked mixed reactions within the gaming community, the continued development of the project is a welcome relief.

Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer boasts impressive visuals, the lack of gameplay footage currently favors Neverness to Everness in many players' opinions. Personally, I find Ananta's aesthetic more captivating.

A surprising development is the deletion of the original Project Mugen social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only the Discord server remains, albeit renamed. This abrupt shift has left many gamers perplexed, as a simple renaming of the existing accounts would have been a simpler solution.

Ananta casts players as an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator battling supernatural chaos. The game features characters such as Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
