Palworld Considers Nintendo Switch Expansion
Bad news for Switch gamers eager to dive into Palworld: a Switch version is currently off the table. This early access survival game, featuring a collection of Pokémon-esque creatures, enjoyed a surge in popularity after its 2024 launch but has since seen a decline in players. However, a substantial update is poised to reignite interest.
The Sakurajima Update, arriving June 27th, is the game's most significant update yet. It introduces a new island, Pals, bosses, a higher level cap, and dedicated servers for Xbox players. While this update is expected to draw players back, it will initially be exclusive to PC and Xbox.
Currently, Palworld is an Xbox console exclusive, with PlayStation plans in the works. This raises the question of a potential Switch port. Unfortunately, Pocketpair's Takuro Mizobe stated in an interview with Game File (via VGC) that a Switch port is unlikely due to technical limitations; the Switch's hardware may not be powerful enough. This doesn't rule out future Nintendo console releases, however.
Palworld's Uncertain Future on Nintendo Platforms
While not explicitly stated, Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console should offer a substantial performance boost over the current model. This suggests the Switch 2 could potentially handle Palworld, especially considering the game's availability on the nearly 11-year-old Xbox One. However, Palworld's thematic similarity to Nintendo's Pokémon franchise might prevent its release on any Nintendo platform.
The possibility of Palworld on a Nintendo console remains uncertain. Nevertheless, portable gameplay options exist. Palworld reportedly runs smoothly on the Steam Deck, offering a portable experience for PC gamers. Furthermore, if rumors of an Xbox handheld prove true, Palworld's compatibility seems likely.
