Pokémon TCG Sees Trainer's Pokémon Return in 2025
Pokémon TCG Announces the Return of Beloved Trainer's Pokémon in 2025!
The Pokémon Company International made a splash at the 2024 Pokémon World Championships with exciting news for Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) players. Beloved mechanics from the game's early days are making a comeback in 2025, including the highly anticipated return of Trainer's Pokémon!
A teaser trailer showcased iconic trainers like Lillie, Marnie, and N, alongside their Pokémon partners. Featured Trainer's Pokémon included Lillie's Clefairy ex, Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex, N's Zoroark ex, and N's Reshiram. These cards, a nostalgic favorite, feature unique abilities and artwork.
The trailer also hinted at the potential return of Team Rocket, featuring Mewtwo and the infamous Team Rocket symbol. This has fueled speculation about a dedicated Team Rocket set or even the comeback of Dark Pokémon, another popular mechanic from the game's past. While unconfirmed, rumors and a Japanese retailer listing, along with a trademark filing for "The Glory of Team Rocket," suggest this is a strong possibility.
Beyond the nostalgic return, the World Championships also unveiled a sneak peek at the upcoming Paradise Dragona set.
First revealed cards from the Japanese Paradise Dragona subset included Latias, Latios, Exeggcute, and Alolan Exeggutor ex. This Dragon-type focused set is slated for an English release as part of the Surging Sparks set in November 2024, according to PokeBeach.
The Pokémon TCG is currently concluding its Kitikami chapter with the launch of Shrouded Fable this month, featuring 99 cards (64 main and 35 secret rare). With these announcements, the future of the Pokémon TCG looks brighter than ever!
