The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i features a 16" 2560x1600 240Hz OLED display, an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and 2TB (2x1TB) of SSD storage. The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX offers a significant performance boost over the Core Ultra 9 185H found in previous flagship laptops, which prioritized energy efficiency over raw power. The new processor aligns perfectly with the GeForce RTX 5080 mobile GPU, promising top-tier gaming performance.
Additional modern features include WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, USB Type-C ports with up to 140W of Power Delivery, Thunderbolt 4 with DisplayPort 2.1 (40Gbps), and a USB Type-A port with USB 3.2 Gen 2 specifications. The Legion Pro retains the increasingly rare RJ45 ethernet port and includes a privacy shutter for the webcam. The laptop's chassis is crafted from durable and premium aluminum and magnesium.
We've reviewed an RTX 5080 equipped gaming laptop
Although we haven't yet reviewed Lenovo's latest Legion laptop, we have tested a gaming laptop with the RTX 5080 GPU. The RTX 5080 shows a marginal improvement over the RTX 4080 in raw rasterized performance but delivers a significant boost when games utilize DLSS 4.0 with multi-frame generation. The Gigabyte Aorus Master, equipped with an RTX 5080 with a 150W TGP rating and a 2560x1600 display, serves as a good comparison. Given that the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i shares the same TGP rating and display resolution, it's expected to provide comparable gaming performance.
Gigabyte Aorus Master 16" RTX 5080 Laptop Review by Chris Coke
"Nvidia emphasizes the 50-series' AI capabilities over pure native rendering performance. While the RTX 5080's performance is disappointingly close to the RTX 4080 without AI enhancements, the gap widens significantly with multi-frame generation in supported games. Although 'fake frames' might be mocked, their impact on performance can be transformative when implemented well. This varies from game to game, with some titles like Alan Wake 2 experiencing more latency at higher settings, while others like Cyberpunk 2077 do not. As future games incorporate technologies like neural shaders, investing in these advancements could be beneficial. However, this is a bet on future support from Nvidia and game developers for both new and existing titles."
