RGG Studio's Upcoming Projects Showcase Sega's Bold Vision

RGG Studio, renowned for its work on the Like a Dragon series, is currently developing several high-profile projects, including a brand-new intellectual property (IP). In addition to the anticipated next installment of Like a Dragon and a Virtua Fighter remake slated for 2025, the studio is ambitiously adding two more titles to its lineup. Masayoshi Yokoyama, the studio's head and director, credits Sega's adventurous approach to game development for these opportunities, highlighting the Japanese publisher's openness to taking risks.

In an exciting reveal during The Game Awards 2025, RGG Studio unveiled Project Century, a new IP set in Japan during 1915. Just a day later, Sega's official channel showcased a trailer for the Virtua Fighter Project, distinct from the upcoming Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O remaster. These projects underscore RGG Studio's expansive vision and Sega's confidence in the studio's ability to innovate.

Yokoyama praised Sega's willingness to accept the possibility of failure, as shared in an interview with Famitsu and translated by Automaton Media. "In a way, that may be in Sega’s DNA," he noted, reflecting on Sega's history of experimentation, such as transforming Virtua Fighter into the action-adventure series Shenmue.

Despite managing multiple projects simultaneously, RGG Studio is committed to maintaining high quality, particularly with the Virtua Fighter series. The IP's creator, Yu Suzuki, has expressed his support for the new project. Yokoyama, along with Virtua Fighter Project producer Riichiro Yamada, emphasized their dedication to delivering a product that is anything but half-baked.

Yamada expressed enthusiasm about the new Virtua Fighter project, stating, "With the new ‘VF,’ we intend to create something innovative that a wide range of people will find ‘cool and interesting!’ Whether you're a fan of the series or not, we hope you'll look forward to more information.
