"Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat in Fall Update: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans"

Author : Elijah Update : May 13,2025

Ubisoft is steering Skull and Bones towards its most ambitious year yet, with Year 2 promising to expand the pirate multiplayer experience through significant content updates. These include new game modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and a highly anticipated feature: land combat.

During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its roadmap for the next year's updates. The highlight is Season 3: Guts and Glory, launching this fall, which will finally introduce the much-requested land combat. Players will be able to step away from the sea to engage in sword fights and use firearms on land. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crew members known as Officers. A teaser video provided a glimpse of what to expect, though full details will be revealed later this year.

While land combat is the standout feature of Year 2, Ubisoft has plenty more planned for Skull and Bones in 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which begins today, April 15, introduces a new item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, launching this winter, will feature the mythical Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

Skull and Bones was released on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, and received a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has not disclosed official sales figures, it reported "record player engagement" shortly after launch. Interestingly, the release of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
