Splatoon 4: Sequel Whispers Follow End of an Era
Nintendo's official announcement confirmed the end of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, Splatoween, Frosty Fest, and other seasonal events will continue. Monthly challenges and weapon adjustments will also be released as needed.
The Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."
This news follows the conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival on September 16th, commemorated by a video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut performance. Nintendo's closing remark, "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!" hinted at a potential transition. With two years having passed since Splatoon 3's September 9th launch, and active development winding down, rumors of a Splatoon 4 are intensifying.
Some players believe they've uncovered potential easter eggs or hints about Splatoon 4's setting within the Grand Festival event, pointing to a new city glimpsed in-game. While some dismiss these as existing assets, others speculate it previews a new location for the next installment.
Although nothing official has been confirmed, reports earlier this year suggested Nintendo had begun development on a new Splatoon title for the Switch. The Grand Festival, being the final major Splatfest, further strengthens the belief that a Splatoon 4 announcement might be imminent.
Past Splatoon Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels, and Splatoon 3's final event may hint at a "Past, Present, or Future" theme for Splatoon 4. However, for now, fans eagerly await an official announcement from Nintendo.
