"Switch 2 Fans May Be Disappointed by Next Pokemon Presents"

Pokemon enthusiasts eagerly awaiting news on Switch 2 titles may need to temper their expectations for the upcoming Pokemon Presents scheduled for Thursday, February 27. Since the franchise's inception on the original Game Boy in the 90s, Pokemon has been a staple on Nintendo's hardware. However, it appears fans will have to wait a bit longer for the series to make its debut on the Switch 2.

As of now, Nintendo has not officially unveiled the Switch 2, though they have confirmed its existence, backward compatibility with the original Switch, the transferability of Nintendo accounts, and a planned reveal within this fiscal year. Information about the Switch 2 largely stems from leaks, which suggest it will be an enhanced, larger version of the original console.

While new Pokemon games are expected to eventually grace the Switch 2, Jeff Grubb has indicated that the upcoming Pokemon Presents will focus on titles in development for the original Switch. These games will, however, be playable on the new console thanks to its backward compatibility.

Pokemon Presents Not Expected to Have News on Switch 2 Games

The next Pokemon Presents is set to provide updates on ongoing live-service games such as Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket. Additionally, fans are eagerly anticipating more information on Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch later this year. So far, only a teaser trailer has been released, showcasing the Lumiose City setting, some returning Pokemon, and the return of Mega Evolutions. There's also buzz about another main series Pokemon game expected to launch this year, separate from Pokemon Legends: Z-A and the Generation 10 titles.

Rumors suggest this new main series game could be remakes of Pokemon Black and White or another installment in the Let's Go series, both of which are expected to be released for the original Switch rather than the Switch 2. If these leaks hold true, it's likely that the first major Pokemon titles exclusive to the Switch 2 will be the Generation 10 games.

Historically, the Pokemon franchise has favored older hardware with larger install bases, as seen with Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, which were released for the original DS rather than the 3DS. It seems this trend may continue. While nothing has been officially confirmed, fans should tune into the Pokemon Presents on February 27 for the latest updates.
