The trailer not only unveils the new Xenomorph design but also captures an aesthetic remarkably similar to Ridley Scott's groundbreaking 1979 horror classic. Fans will notice the familiar MU/TH/UR control room, reminiscent of the Nostromo, where Ripley famously uncovered the dire situation of her crew.
In the trailer, a desperate crew member is seen pleading for help as she is trapped behind a sealed door, with the Xenomorph ominously close. Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, appears indifferent to her desperate situation, reporting that the "specimens are loose" and declaring the crew dead. He then sets the ship’s course towards Earth. The trailer also teases a group of six soldiers approaching what appears to be the crashed ship, hinting at their likely grim fate.
The trailer raises numerous intriguing questions: Will Morrow survive? What drives his actions? Are there any other survivors, and could any be carrying a Xenomorph embryo? How will the soldiers meet their end?
This sets the stage for Alien: Earth, which follows the aftermath of a mysterious space vessel crash-landing on Earth. A young woman, played by Sydney Chandler, along with a group of tactical soldiers, make a startling discovery that leads them into direct confrontation with Earth's most formidable threat.
FX’s Alien series is set in 2120, strategically placed within the Alien timeline, occurring after the events of Prometheus and just two years before the original Alien and the tragic fate of the Nostromo crew. This setting has sparked speculation among fans that Alien: Earth might explore the Nostromo's departure from Earth or reveal how the nefarious Weyland-Yutani corporation learned about the Xenomorphs. As a point of reference, the recently released interquel Alien: Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens. In January of last year, showrunner Noah Hawley shed light on why he is not using the backstory provided in Prometheus for Alien: Earth. Hawley expressed a preference for the "retro-futurism" of the original films. He mentioned having discussions with Alien creator Ridley Scott about various aspects of the series, including its connection to the prequels. However, he chose to diverge from the bioweapon backstory, opting instead for the lore established in the earlier films.
Fans can look forward to Alien: Earth premiering on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Additionally, Alien: Romulus 2 is also in the works, promising to further expand the rich tapestry of the Alien universe.
