Saying Goodbye to Gacha

Koei Tecmo Europe announced on November 26, 2024, via Twitter (X), that Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & The White Guardian will not include a gacha system, unlike its mobile counterpart, Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator. This means players won't face paywalls to progress, eliminating the need to purchase in-game currency for characters or powerful items. A refreshing change for fans!

Beyond the absence of gacha, the announcement highlights offline playability, independent of the mobile game. The official website promises "New protagonists and an original story await in Lantarna," suggesting a shared world but a distinct narrative and cast of characters.

Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian is slated for release on PS5, PS4, Switch, and Steam in 2025. Pricing and a precise release date are yet to be revealed by Koei Tecmo.

A Look Back at the Mobile Game's Gacha System

Atelier Resleriana Won't Have Gacha

Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator, the mobile predecessor, is a mainline Atelier title incorporating the series' signature synthesis system and turn-based combat. However, it also features a gacha mechanic, where players spend money to acquire and strengthen characters.

The gacha system uses a "spark" mechanic. Players accumulate medals with each pull, eventually unlocking characters or Memoria (illustration cards). Unlike a pity system guaranteeing a specific drop after a certain number of pulls, this system relies on accumulating medals. The cost of each pull is a set number of gems.

Released in January 2024 on Steam, Android, and iOS, the mobile game received mixed reviews on Steam, while achieving 4.2/5 on Google Play and 4.6 on the App Store. The discrepancy highlights the impact of the gacha system, with some Steam players citing its cost as a significant issue.
